  • What can I expect from a holistic counselling session? What will it be like? Every therapist is different and their therapeutic style and personalities are all unique. I will hold a safe compassionate and non-judgmental space for you, where every single part of you is welcome, even the parts that are uncomfortable to share. As a therapist, I am honoured that you chose this process as your path for healing.

Generally, we’ll spend the first session getting to know each other, talking a little about your history and what it is you’d like to work through. From your second session onwards, you’ll get to go deeper and all the while learning practical strategies to help you cope and grow.

I believe that healing is a long-term journey of commitment, investment and growth. I will encourage you to have at least 8 sessions so we can work at the nervous system level and support your body, mind and soul to rewire.

After working toegther for a while, you may continue to book occasional check-in sessions as you feel more confident doing life with the knowledge and tools you have gained.

Do I need to do anything before my first session?

I recommend arriving at your first session 10 minutes early to become familiar with parking and where the clinic is located. (You might need to fill out some forms too if you’ve not already done this online).

There’s zero pressure to prepare anything for your first session but if you find it helpful, you can jot down some points about specific things you’d like to work on or discuss with me.

    Are my therapy sessions confidential?

Everything you discuss with me is absolutely confidential, and will not be shared unless you or someone else is at risk of serious harm.

  • People contact me when the pain of what they are trying to cope with becomes too big for them to handle on their own and they recognise they need support. When life pulls the rug out from under us, holistic counselling can help get you back on your feet with tools and a new perspective.

    1. When Change happens, a holistic counsellor can become a companion for your healing journey.

Sometimes things happen that we’re not comfortable discussing with our friends o family. Often we need to talk to someone to help us get some perspective on life events. A holistic counsellor is an impartial listener that provides a safe sounding board–someone to look at pros and cons of possible choices. Gather tools to cope with life’s challenges.

    2. Brain health

For many people, anxiety and/or depression is a current and real experience. Holistic counselling has been shown to be helpful by providing support to discuss underlying issues that may be contributing to anxiety and depression as well as teaching skills to help lessen the side effects get to the root causes and begin rewiring the brain and nervous system.

    3. A holistic counsellor can provide perspective (normalise events in our lives).

Most people, at some point in their lives, wonder if the thoughts, feelings and behaviours they are experiencing are normal. Because of the wide variety of people and their situations that I have encountered, I can provide a sense of perspective about your experience. If there is some concern about what is happening, I can support you as you move in the direction of healing and wholeness.

    4. Holistic counselling provides an opportunity to heal from past trauma.

Everyone has ‘stuff’–those past events in our lives that affect how we cope in the present. We often think of trauma as ‘big’ things–the sudden death of a loved one, a car accident, an assault–but trauma is extremely personal and could be something that may appear to be small to some people and is a stumbling block to others. I can help you to cope with and/or move through your trauma and see positive changes in your life.

    5. A family member or friend (a key person) in your life is concerned about you and suggests that you talk to someone?.

It is sometimes the people that are closest to us that can see when we need support. Often we become so used to our negative coping strategies that we don’t notice them anymore, they slowly over time become our new normal. If a key person in your life is telling you of their concerns, please listen and think about what they are saying. Getting support may make all the difference to taking control of your life.

    6. You are suffering from body symptoms that are not helped with physical treatments (stomach aches, headaches, muscle tension).

Our bodies are amazing things. Sometimes they tell us what our minds are choosing to ignore. The body holds on to negative emotions and past trauma and when physical treatments are not working, it may be time to look elsewhere.

    7. You are self-soothing using inappropriate/harmful methods drugs, alcohol, shopping, etc.

Most of us will resort to ‘comfort’ food after a bad day at work or an argument with a friend. However, when we are doing this daily, or if our self-soothing behaviour has moved on to activities that hurt rather than help, it’s time to get support from an understanding holistic counsellor.

    8. An important relationship is going through a rough patch or falling apart.

Relationships are tricky things. They require work and sometimes get off-track. I can provide tools and a safe space to help get your relationship past the rough patch as well as provide support if your relationship is ending.
